The Cleddau River winds its way through the Cleddau Valley in Fiordland National Park, not far from the Darran Mountains. Fiordland National Park occupies 1.2 million hectares in the southwest corner of the South Island. Mt Aspiring National Park and Westland National Park make up the larger Te Wahipounamu South West New Zealand World Heritage area. Te Wahipounamu (the place of Greenstone) is 2.6 million hectares of land, safely protected thanks to its World Heritage status.
