The Coromandel Peninsula is located east of Auckland on the North Island. It is a promontory of land that extends into the Hauraki Gulf and is bordered by the Firth of Thames to the west and the South Pacific Sea to the east. As well as offering spectacular white sandy beaches and rocky coves, the Coromandel interior offers mountains and lush rainforests.
Unsurprisingly, it is a popular holiday destination. With a laid-back atmosphere and a holiday feel, the Coromandel is home to many artists and because of this the area offers plenty of galleries and studios to visit.
