Geography

Fiordland 02

Located in Fiordland National Park within the Eglington Valley, the Earl Mountains are visible from Lake Te Anau. Lake Te Anau is New Zealand’s second-largest lake and provides access to the endless hiking, tramping and sightseeing opportunities of Fiordland.

The Earl Mountains sit east of the great divide and, as a result, receive less rainfall than the mountains closer to the coast. This environment has created its distinct fractured and steep ridgeline making it a mountain for more experienced mountaineers.
