Mt Aspiring National Park occupies over 3,500 square kilometres in the Southern Alps region of the South Island. Together with Fiordland National Park and Westland National Park, it makes up the larger Te Wahipounamu South West New Zealand World Heritage area. Te Wahipounamu (the place of Greenstone) is 2.6 million hectares of land, safely protected thanks to its World Heritage status.
Mt Aspiring National Park straddles either side of the main divide. In this piece, the park’s highest peak, Mt Earnslaw (2835m) is the tallest mountain in the centre of the image. The popular Dart Valley is visible to the right of the Forbes Mountains.
