Lake Paringa Mist

The distinctive horseshoe-shaped Lake Paringa captured on a classic wet and misty West Coast day. A five-minute exposure appears to make the rain disappear, drawing the eye to the dark, deep waters of the lake.

Lake Paringa Mist

Lake Paringa is a remnant of a glacier that carved its way through the landscape tens of thousands of years ago. The lake is situated 50 kilometres north of Haast on the West Coast of the South Island. The West Coast is famous for a multitude of incredible scenery, which covers the rugged West Coast beaches on one side and the towering snow-capped peaks of the Southern Alps on the other.

It is estimated there are nearly 3,000 glaciers throughout the Southern Alps. Among them, Fox and Franz Josef are stand-outs, drawing visitors from around the world.
