Geography

Milford Sound

Milford Sound is found within Fiordland National Park, a 1.2 million hectare World Heritage-listed region of New Zealand’s South Island. It runs 16 kilometres from the start of the fiord at Deepwater Basin to the Tasman Sea and is home to a number of species, including dolphins, penguins and seals.

Not actually a sound, but a fiord, Milford Sound was carved by glaciers that once made their way to the sea. The immense sheer cliff faces are now home to Milford Sound’s famous waterfalls, many rival the world’s biggest, particular on a rainy day of which Fiordland has many.
